This Italian gem is known for its romantic and beautiful canals. Just one ride on a gondola through the city is enough to make you fall in love. However, the city has been sinking. Venice has recently faced several floods and experts believe the city may be uninhabitable by the end of the century.
The Dead Sea
The Dead Sea has been mentioned in ancient texts in many cultures. It’s saltiness dazzles tourists every year as they float amongst its rich minerals. However, in the last 40 years the sea has shrunk by a third. Scientists believe the Sea could disappear in as little as 50 years!
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral system in the world and is composed of thousands of individual reefs. The bright, vivd colors of the coral amaze people everywhere. However, due to rising temperatures and acid pollution the reef is losing its color and turning white. Studies show 93% of the reef is affected by some level of bleaching.
The Seychelles is a grouping of over 110 islands in the Indian Ocean. The islands are home to around 90,000 citizens and multiple luxury resorts. The islands have already seen a massive tragic coral die-off and experts believe the islands are at risk of beach erosion. Scientists believe it is possible all the islands could be completely underwater in 50-100 years!
The Alps in Europe are arguably the most famous and visited mountain range in the world. The Alps sit at a lower altitude than any other mountain range. Therefore, the range is very easily affected by climate change. Experts believe glaciers shrink around 3% each year. Experts also say it is possible the range could completely disappear by 2050!
